CBD is definitely a hot topic and can become quite confusing especially in the skincare community. So what is so great about “CBD” and what the heck is it? CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is a naturally occurring substance extracted from the cannabis hemp plant and has many amazing benefits when applied to your skin.

1. Vitamin Rich

CBD oil is rich in vitamins A, C, and E. Vitamin A is a retinoid, which stimulates the production of new skin cells. The skin absorbs this retinol readily when it is applied topically. Vitamin C is known for boosting collagen production, which helps skin look more youthful.

2. Anti-inflammatory

Cannabinoids have 2 primary receptors, CB1 and CB2, which have been found in defense system cells. CBD binds to TRPV-1 receptors which are regulatory cells in the body. When applied topically, CBD can reduce feelings of pain, heat or itching in the body when it binds with the receptors.

3. Helps with blemishes

CBD helps to control the overproduction of lipids in skin cells. An overproduction of sebum in the body can lead to skin problems and blemishes. CBD oil may help to reduce oil production, due to its effects on sebocytes, which are cells that produce sebum.

4. Antioxidant properties

Antioxidants are substances that can slow damage to cells caused by free radicals, which are unstable molecules the body produces in response to environmental pressures. CBD works as an antioxidant by slowing oxidative damage.

5. Helps mature skin look radiant

Since CBD may protect skin from free radical damage, such as UV rays and pollutants, it can be beneficial to mature skin. As we age, there are changes in cell components such as collagen and elastin. These components keep our skin looking youthful. CBD can also reduce inflammation, so in turn, the skin can repair itself better and reduce visible signs of aging.

CBD is a great addition to any skincare product, and it can benefit all skin types.
